The Gantry Parent Association (GPA), founded in October 2015, is a group open to all parents, expectant parents, and other interested parties from the Hunters Point and Court Square areas. We derive our name from our notable neighborhood landmark on the East River. Like the Gantries, which supported cranes to lift locomotives a century ago, the GPA will support schools, the engines of education.
The GPA strives to facilitate communication between elected officials, the Department of Education, and parents as it pertains to educational opportunities in the local area.
We are focused on learning about the growing residential population, the need for more school seats in Hunters Point and Court Square, and facilitating an ongoing needs assessment from Pre-K to high school.
In addition, with the involvement and support of the membership, The GPA acts as a central resource and information hub regarding education in the area.
The GPA will work with the Hunters Point and Court Square communities to ensure the number of school seats and the quality of education keeps pace with the development of Long Island City, Queens.
